  • Newsletter 27 June 2014

    Fri 27 Jun 2014

Safeguarding – may we remind parents that any child arriving or leaving school out of regular hours must be signed in or out in the blue folder by the office. This is to ensure that we can account for your child’s whereabouts at all times. Also if you are late collecting your child and have to pick up from the foyer please let the office or another member of staff know when you arrive. Please remind your children that they should not be letting themselves out to meet you. Again a member of staff must know your child has left with an appropriate adult.

Online Ordering – would parents who are ordering their children’s meal online, please tell their children what they are having each day before coming to school. Many children don’t know what has been ordered and have been taking meals that have not been ordered for them. This has meant other children have not had the meals they were expecting. We print out a list each day of the classroom orders and the canteen send us a list of online orders to help those children who have forgotten but many children have not been checking the daily list before taking meals. Thank you for your cooperation.

Feedback form – this week you should receive a feedback form with your Newsletter. Please may we ask that you fill it in and send it back to school via your class Teacher or through the office post box as soon as possible.

    Sports Day – Key Stage 1: Tuesday 8th July 1.30 – 3.15pm.
    Key Stage 2: Tuesday 8th July 9.15 – 12noon.
The Key Stage 1 event will take place on the school field.
The Key Stage 2 event will be over on the Langtree field.
Both events are subject to the weather and may have to be changed at short notice.

Sainsbury’s Vouchers –the closing date for these is Tuesday 1st July 2014. Unfortunately any vouchers received after this time will be of no use, so please turn out your handbags, pockets and purses and bring any vouchers to the school office before 1st July so we can place an order for free school resources.

Langtree Taster Day – Wednesday 2nd July 2014 for participating Year 6. We hope they enjoy their day at secondary school.

New Foundation Teacher – we are delighted that Miss Sarah Beesley will be joining our teaching team as the Foundation Stage Teacher in September 2014. Miss Beesley is currently at Watlington Primary school and is looking forward to joining our team.

Summer weather – please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school so that they have access to water in the class room, especially on hot days. For break & lunch times we would like children to have a named sun hat to wear and sun cream available, if they have not applied it before school. Please check your child’s sweatshirts and cardigans for names as many go missing at this time of year after being left out on the playground.

Dinner money – may we remind you that all dinner money should be handed to the school office (or put through the post box) on a Monday morning only. Please ensure the named envelope is sealed and states your child’s name and the amount enclosed. Envelopes delivered after Monday will not be processed until Friday of that week. If you wish to sign up for the Aspens Online ordering and payment service instead, please use the following link: http://www.aspens-services.co.uk/schools/pri-woodcote.php

Please inform the school office if you do sign up to Aspens service. Thank you.

  • Wildlife Area is Now Open…

    Fri 13 Jun 2014

Yesterday the new and improved wildlife area was officially opened.
Visitors, helpers, contributors and a reporter from the Henley Standard spent a beautiful afternoon in the sunshine looking at all the new plants and enjoying a little pond dipping.

The pond is filled with tadpoles and it is exciting to see all the plants starting to grow and fill the space.

The Year three class also spent the morning building a “Bug Hotel” out of natural and made-made materials and we look forward to seeing all the tenants in the 7 level apartment block!
This space will be used by all the classes in the new curriculum and is set to become a wonderful outdoor educational resource for our school.

  • Bieber Virus

    Fri 13 Jun 2014

It has been brought to our attention, by parents using our newly relaunched website, that they have found themselves taken to a Justin Bieber video site rather than the link they were expecting on our website eg the Parent Portal. We have looked into the issue and have found that there is virus going around which causes this link. It is a virus that comes from using Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Music, videos and game sites are the main culprits.

It does not come from the Woodcote Primary School Website and you cannot get this virus from using our website. It is very hard to find and can pop up randomly when you are navigating any number of websites. We recommend that you have virus software to protect you from this as it writes a cookie to your system. We hope this is useful in eliminating Mr Bieber(!!) and any other virus you may find.

Year 6 Residential Trip –Willow Class had a fantastic time on their residential trip to the Brecon Becons last week. The weather wasn’t brilliant but it didn’t hamper them from any of their planned activities which included canoeing, high ropes, a very wet hill & waterfall walk, caving, gorge walking, a visit to a castle and a gold mine.

Twitter – Mrs Lecorgne has set up a Woodcote Primary School Twitter account. If you would like to follow our school please find us at: @WPSoxon There will be updates posted throughout term time.

National Grounds Week – thank you to all the parents who donated a variety of things for our large piece of art. The children had great fun creating the piece of art, in the style of Andrew Goldsworthy, on the school field. Photos of the work can be seen in the foyer.

Class Photos– on Tuesday 17th June Tempest are coming into school to take Class Photos. These will take place in the school hall and we remind you that all children will need their school jumpers or cardigans for the photos. Tempest will also be taking the Year 6 leavers photos too.

Curriculum planning – on Tuesday & Friday next week most Teachers will be out of class, meeting to plan the 2014/15 Primary Curriculum due to the Government changes that need to be in place by September. The effected classes will have appropriate cover in place for both days.

Messy yoghurts – bring do not include in your child’s packed lunch, the pouch style yoghurts or the ones with tiny peel back tops on as many children find it difficult to open them.Whilst we expect to help the younger children, the more independent children can end up in rather a mess.

PE Kits – a reminder that PE kits should be in school from Monday morning until Friday afternoon every week. Many children are forgetting their kit although will have to take part in their PE lesson anyway wearing their school uniform. This is far from ideal but we are keen for the children not to miss out on PE.

Year 6 Residential Trip – from Mrs Lecorgne’s reports by phone and on Twitter, it sounds as if the Year 6 children have had a wonderful trip and have managed to smile despite the wet weather.

National Grounds Week – please could any parents help with the supply or donation of any of the following list: Sand, small sticks, stones/flints, pinecones, bark, straw or hay.

The children will be making a large piece of art with the items during National Grounds Week. Please could you let the office know if you can help with any of the items and bring them in on Monday 9th June as we have no means of storage before then. Thank you to the parents who have already offered to bring in logs and hay.

As part of the National Grounds Week we will be celebrating the opening of our recently rejuvenated Wildlife Area.

Class Photos– on Tuesday 17th June Tempest will be coming into school to take Class Photos. These will take place in the school hall and we remind you that all children will need their school jumpers or cardigans for the photos. Tempest will also be taking the Year 6 leavers photos too.

Sainsbury’s Vouchers – the voucher scheme has now finished in stores so please bring in any vouchers you may have so that they can be counted and resources for school ordered as soon as possible.
