  • Christmas is Coming!

    Tue 24 Nov 2015

It seems to have come out of nowhere but we are indeed getting into the swing of Christmas now. Nativity rehearsals are well underway (you may have heard the songs already!). Thank you to those of you who have already delivered costumes! I’m impressed! We have now finished our Alien topic and are just finishing up our stories and artwork ready to show you. We will be learning about how other people celebrate Christmas over the coming weeks and writing some Christmas stories. We hope to get some cooking going in the last few weeks of term so do let us know if you are able to help with this.

    Reading and Rhyme-time

A big thank you to those parents who have been attending our rhyme-times on Wednesday afternoon.

It would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible, remember you are free to bring your little ones to join in. It is a great opportunity to see how we teach reading and speaking skills and spend some time reading with your children. We meet at the library at approx 2:15-2:30.

The children have been doing so well with the recorder sessions and many of them have asked to take music home. You will have seen this in your child’s book bag on Friday. We have even been asked after our sharing assembly success to perform again at the Christmas Fair!

We will be having an open Christmas Crafty session on the 11th of December for anyone who fancies having a go at some creative activities, more information on this to follow shortly.

Finally could we ask that all children are bringing a coat into school from now on. It is turning very chilly. Please could you check your child’s coat has their own name in it as we have had a few gone missing.  Much appreciated. Thank you.

    Until next time

  • weekly news and events blog

    Mon 09 Nov 2015

We hope you had a lovely half term. The children have had a very busy first week back. We have been finishing our sculpture project and would like to thank George Lewis for his hard work over the last 6 weeks. The alien artwork looks fabulous and we are looking forward to inviting you to our upcoming exhibition, watch this space.

In Maths the children have been using numberlines to add and subtract by counting forwards and backwards. Here is Tirzah’s lovely work.

Don’t forget to keep practicing your counting backwards and writing numbers to 20. The children have been very excited to tell me all the hard work they have been doing at home and we can really see the difference. Great work parents, keep it up!

In English we have been preparing to write our alien fantasy stories by making our settings and character puppets to practice our language. We can’t wait to read the stories the children will produce next week.

In other news, The Children have been learning the recorder in between swimming sessions. They learnt how to hold it correctly and play note B. What talented musicians we have in our class! We are a little short of recorders so if you have any spare ones lying around at home you could donate or lend we would be very grateful. Thank you.

Also we have been remembering those that fought and sacrificed their lives for our country in the war. We have created some beautiful poppy artwork to help us remember them. Keep your eye out for our work shortly.

Finally we hope to see as many of you as possible at our exciting new…

    Reading and rhyme time

at 2:30 on Wednesday at Woodcote library. Please do come along and enjoy singing, reading and poetry with your little ones. Feel free to bring younger children and you are welcome to sign out and take your children at the end of the session. Until then…

Sainsbury’s Silver Kitemark Award – the Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are proud to announce that Woodcote Primary School has been awarded the Silver kitemark. We would like to thank Mrs Bodeker for all of her hard work increasing the range of sports and activities that are available. Thanks also goes to many parents who have offered their time and support making some of the additional activities possible.

Lunchtime Supervisor – we are looking for lunchtime supervision for 2 – 5 days a week, term time. If you are interested in applying for this position, please contact the school office on 01491 680 454 for more information.

Church Fair – Saturday 7th November, St Leonard’s Church is holding its annual fundraising fair in the Village Hall from 1.30pm. Entrance is only 20p and there will be stalls and attractions for the whole family, along with entertaining competitions, raffles, refreshment and the opportunity to meet and catch up with friends. Do come along. You should find many Christmas bargains and entries for the colouring competition will be displayed.

Street Dance –Street Dance starts on Friday 13th November at 8am in the school hall. If your child is interested please complete a registration form and bring it to the school office with payment in a sealed, labelled envelope. There are paper copies in the Foyer. There are a few spaces left.

Children in Need – on Friday 13th November children may help support Children in Need by coming into school dressed as a Superhero of their choice. Please bring in a donation of £1.00.

Optional Milk – as part of a recent Government initiative to help develop healthy eating habits in children, school can now offer parents the opportunity to buy a daily portion of milk for their children whilst at school. Guidelines state that the milk to be offered is 1.8% fat or lower and lactose reduced milk. Children eligible for Free School Meals are entitled to free milk and children under 5 years old currently receive milk at school daily.  We would like to gauge the requirement for milk for children over 5 years old. Please complete a milk form available in school and  send it back to the school office by Friday 13th November. Once we have an idea of numbers, we will advise parents of costs and method of payment (paper copies in the Foyer).

Nativity – this year Foundation, Oak Class, will be performing the traditional Nativity on Friday 4th December at 2pm in the school hall. There will be a dress rehearsal on Thursday 3rdDecember at 2pm to which children from the Cabin and Woodcote Pre-School will be attending along, with the whole school. The other two Key Stage 1 classes, Hornbeam and Beech, will be performing on Tuesday 7th December at 1.30pm and Wednesday 8th December at 6pm. More details will follow.

Uniform – please note that the school uniform for all children is a plain white polo shirt and school sweatshirt or cardigan. If your child would like to wear an additional layer for warmth, as well as their sweatshirt, please ensure it is a plain white base layer or T-shirt, not a coloured one. As Winter sets in, there is the usual problem of mud and dirt being walked into school. If your child walks to school please ensure they wear boots or similar, that can be changed for school shoes once at school. This will help control the amount of dirt coming into the classrooms and hall. As ever, please label all items coming into school to help reduce lost property. A laundry marker is available in the school office.

Samaritan’s Purse – thank you to the parents who donated Christmas boxes for this appeal.

Printer cartridges – if anyone has any original toner or ink cartridges to be recycled please bring them in a sealed plastic bag to the school office. We can send them off and earn some extra funds for school.

Forms – please note that many of the forms for parents are now located in the outer part of the Foyer. Hopefully it will make it easier for parents to access. Please remember to complete an Absence form when your child has returned after being off school due to illness.
