Cricket – Last week we competed against local Primary Schools in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Whitchurch Primary School.

This is a sport we haven’t competed in before so it was good to give the children this experience.  We played three games, winning 1 and losing 2.  The children tried their best and enjoyed the tournament, so well done to Daniel Church, Jack Clark, Harry Hogan, Eilis Murphy, Max Preshner, Dean Smith, Sam Taylor, Conrad Warren, Lauren Cox and Adam Wise.

Netball – Our netball team performed very well again this week at a tournament at Wallingford school. With some excellent performances, the team won 3 games and drew 3, finishing second in their tournament.  Thank you to Miss Allen and Mrs Peacock for organising and supporting the team.  Well done to Adam Wise, Sam Taylor, Lauren Cox, Josh Brant, Harry Hogan, Amy Sadler, Lucy Ball and Jazz Maloney.

PE uniform – Can I please remind everyone that all children should have with them in school the following PE uniform – white tee-shirt and black or navy shorts.  Other items of clothing are not acceptable.

Packed Lunches – We are encouraging all the children to eat healthily and so can we ask please that your child’s lunch does not contain sweets or chocolate but has a balanced mix of food.

Half Term – School finishes today for half term week 4th to 8th June inclusive and will start again on Monday 11th June.

Quest for the Olympics – This week we had Freshwater Theatre in to engage the children in a ‘Quest for the Olympics’ workshop.  Each class explored the Olympics through the ages from the very first games to this year’s London Olympics. Children learned about different sports, some of the countries taking part and about the importance of diet for athletes.  Children really enjoyed the pacey, practical, fun filled activities.

School Dinners – Changes to school dinners next week:

Tuesday 29th May – Jubilee Meal – Hot Dog Rolls with potato balls followed by British Tart.

Thursday 31st May – No hot dinners because of our own Jubilee Party with food provided by parents.

Class Photographs – Next Wednesday 30th May the photographer will be in to take Year 6 and class photographs.  Could all children please have with them their sweatshirt or cardigan.

Jubilee Party – Thursday 31st May.  Children will need to wear normal school uniform, no dressing up for the party.  All food donations should be taken to your child’s classroom first thing in the morning.  If you have not yet returned your slip about food you will be bringing, please do so as soon as possible or ask in the office about a possible alternative if there is a problem with what you have been asked to bring.

Sunshine – Now that the warm weather has finally arrived can I remind parents to apply sun cream to their children before school on hot days and to provide a sunhat (labelled with their name) so that they do not get sun burnt.  This is especially important for the Jubilee Party as the party will be in the playground.

Lost Property – At present we have a boxful of lost property.  If your child has lost an item of clothing please ask in the school office as any items left by half term will be disposed of.

Half Term – School will finish on Friday 1st June at the usual time of 3.15pm for half term week 4th to 8th June inclusive.  School reopens on Monday 11th June.

Sainsbury Vouchers – If you have any Sainsbury vouchers please bring them in to the school at the beginning of next week as we have to send them in with our order by half term.

Swimming Gala – Last week we took part in a swimming gala at the Oratory School pool competing against local primary schools.

There were a mixture of traditional races including relays and fun races.  There were some excellent performances, with our relay teams performing extremely well.  Overall we finished in a fantastic second place. Well done to Jana Scholey, Isabel Carr, Eilis Murphy, Maddy Dudley, Zak Doherty, Imogen Freedman, Kathryn Hall, Sam Taylor, Max Preshner, Harry Hogan, Adam Wise, Lucy Ball, Alex Ostridge, Conrad Warren, Josh Palmer and Josh Brant.

Olympics 5 keys to success – Last Friday we had a very entertaining assembly performed by The Magic Club.  The assembly was interactive and fun and focussed on the 5 keys to success, which are used by athletes to promote success in sport.  The 5 keys are Self belief, Commitment, Motivation, Goals and Team work.  As a school we will refer to these keys throughout the summer term, leading up to the Olympics.

SATs – Next week Year 6 pupils will be sitting their mandatory Year 6 SATs tests in Literacy and Maths.  The pupils have been preparing well for these and we wish them all the best for next week.

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations – 31st May – We are pleased to announce that Holly Salter has been selected to be the Diamond Queen, Zak Clifford-Zyms as the Prince Consort, Ben Dowman, Finley Bowen and Toby-Joe McBride as the Footmen and Daisy Packer, Bethan Lyons and Miriam Pickett as the Ladies in Waiting.  Thank you to all the children who put themselves forward for selection.

SATs – Well done to all our Year 6 pupils this week who have worked hard and remained calm to complete their SATs in reading, writing and maths.  I am sure all their preparation work will have paid off.

Team Super Schools – Children will receive with this newsletter a letter announcing our Team Super Schools sponsored event coming up soon at our school.  This is a special sponsored event which involves a visit from an international athlete who, hopefully, will be competing in this year’s Olympic Games.  The children have already had an introductory assembly.

Tag Rugby Success – Congratulations to our Year 6 tag rugby team who won the Wallingford Rugby Club tournament.

The team played 6 group games, winning all 6, and proceeded to the final, where they beat Lewknor School, last year’s winners, after extra time. The team played extremely well, with some fantastic running and passing, and lots of excellent tries scored. is absent from school for any reason that the school office is informed either in person or by telephone early in the morning.
