    Thu 18 Jul 2013

Marvellous Festival, Wellington Country Park – We’ve been sent 2 adult tickets for the Saturday 20th July. Face value is £35.00 each. If you would like the purchase the tickets please make a reasonable offer to
    fowps@woodcote-primary.co.uk.

Dress down day – will be on Tuesday 23rd July, if your child would like to take part please pay £1.00 to their class teacher.

    Money Raised by FOWPS

Since September we have raised just over £9000.00 which I’m sure you’ll agree is a fantastic amount of money. All this is due to a very hard working committee, supportive parents and staff so thank you all.

Most of you will know roughly how much you are asked to contribute towards you child’s school trip………..imagine how much more it would be if FOWPS hadn’t paid around £3300 towards the trips across the whole school this year.

Our biggest spend this year was the minibus, £10000.00. On top of all that we also paid for: outdoor furniture for Reception class, garden bulbs, dictionaries, story teller for book week and yr6 leavers’ party.

AGM If you are interested in joying the committee please email fowps@woodcote-primary.co.uk.

The date for the AGM will be published after the holidays

Finally…………….after 5 years on the committee and 3 years as chair I will be leaving at the next AGM in October. Thank you to a great, hard working committee for all their support over the years.

Also I would like to thank Alke for being treasurer of FOWPS for many years and wish her, Mark, Rebecca and Robin all the best for their new life in Germany.

Hope you all have a great summer and we look forward to your support next year!!

    Thank you    Agnes

Thank you – I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents for their support to me and the school over the last 6 years.  I will look back over the years with many fond memories.  I am so pleased with how much the school has improved and moved forward, thanks particularly to the hard work and dedication of staff and also the fantastic support of parents, especially the FOWPS committee.

Throughout the years the children have been fantastic at the school.  Visitors to the school always comment on how friendly, welcoming and polite the children are and this has contributed to a lovely atmosphere around the school.  I am certain Woodcote Primary School will move from strength to strength and look forward to hearing of further successes.  I am moving onto a new challenge at a school in West Berkshire, and will look forward to that.  Once again, thank you for your continued support.  I hope you all have a lovely summer break.

Goodbye – At the end of term we will say goodbye to Mr Dixon who has worked at our school for two years.  We thank him for all his hard work and wish him well in his new school.

Literacy Cup and Shield – Congratulations to Charlotte Mansfield, who this year has won the Literacy Cup.  This special award is given to a Year 6 pupil each year to recognise and celebrate their achievement and progress in literacy.  Charlotte has produced writing of a very high standard, consistently this year, so well done to Charlotte.  The cup was donated by Mary Williams in memory of her deceased granddaughter, who had a love of reading and in particular writing stories and poems

Congratulations also to Adam McBride who received the literacy shield to recognise his effort and progress with writing this year.  Adam has made significant improvements with writing this year, writing to a high standard and with increasing maturity, well done to Adam.

School Uniform – With this newsletter you will receive a letter about School Uniform which shows what uniform should be worn in school. We will be expecting all children to be in the required school uniform in September.  Please could you also ensure that all items of uniform are clearly marked with your child’s name so that it can be returned to them if it becomes lost.  Forms are available in the school office if you need to order new uniform.

Woodcote Breakfast Club – The Breakfast Club has a few spaces left from September, it opens at
7.15 am during term time.  For further information please contact Charlotte on (01491) 682792 or visit the website at www.woodcotebreakfastclub.co.uk

End of Term – Next Tuesday 23rd July finishing at 1pm

Autumn Term – Children return to school on Wednesday 4th September, usual starting time

Sports Days – Well done to all the children who took part in our Sports Days this week and thank you to all the staff for organising this so well.  Thank you also to the parents who came along and supported them.  The weather was on our side this year and the events all went off very well.  Congratulations to team ‘Owls’ who won the most points.

Scooter missing – Last week a scooter went missing from the school, possibly taken home by mistake by another child.  If you find you have one that does not belong to your child, please bring it into the school office and we will return it to the rightful owner.

Packed Lunches – Can we please remind you that the following should not be included in packed lunches as they cause problem for the lunchtime supervisors: Anything containing Nuts (as we have children with nut allergies) or any desserts in tubes or pouches (frubes and similar).  Also can you please include a spoon in the packed lunch box if needed.

Wonderful Wildlife – We have the wonderful facility of a wildlife area within the school grounds which was established some four years ago but sadly is now in need of some TLC.

We would like to put together a working party from September onwards to clear the area and to re-establish the log piles, the pond area, clear some trees, trim the hedges etc.

And then, as an ongoing project, to help with the maintenance seasonally.  Absolutely no experience necessary, a willing heart and some enthusiasm is more than enough.  Oh, and if anyone has any waders, they might help too.  This may involve just 3 or 4 organised sessions in the year, but even if you could help out just once, please let us know.  The wildlife area is used to support many aspects of the curriculum through science / biology, English, maths and of course art and offers valuable learning opportunities for the children.  Anyone who can offer support, please contact Helena.adams07@gmail.com or call on
    07798 702041.

Music Fun Day – The Music for Schools Foundation is holding a Musical Fun Day at Horspath Village Hall on Sunday 28th July.  The workshop is also open to brass and woodwind players in the school not learning with MFSF.

Woodcote Rally – This weekend.  Also TONIGHT there will be a‘free’ event for the village, disco, food stalls and CAMRA beer tent.

The summer term is always the busiest for our children, all in preparation for the long summer (and it looks as though we may have one this year).

Sport, as ever, features high on the list of activities and we had our years 3 & 4 competing in a tennis tournament at Goring Tennis club (names on newsletter). This was a really well organised event that had the children competing against other local primary schools but in addition, the judging and the scoring was left to the children too. It was great NOT to see any disagreements or arguments and a great display of great sportsmanship all round.

Quad Kids is an interschool athletics competition a team of Year 3 children and a joint year 5/6 team to competed in a 600m run, 75m sprint, throw and long jump. All the children tried their best and displayed a fantastic attitude. Notably good performances came from Toby-Joe McBride, finishing second in the 600m against other Year 4 runners and Briany Humphrey who finished third in the 600m and to the year 5/6 team who came third overall. A big thank you to the year 10 Langtree students who did the coaching, marshalling and judging and encouraged them all on.

Year 6 have now finished their SATs, been on their residential trip to Brecon in mid-Wales, had their presentation evening and are preparing themselves for Langtree in September. This is a huge milestone for them and we wish them all the very best of luck in the future.

Our Summer Fair comprised the usual exciting stalls including ‘splat the rat’ and Mr Field (bless him) allowed himself to be put in the stocks once again, much to the delight of the children and especially the year 6’s, to have wet sponges thrown at him yet again. A huge thank you to all those who helped on the day and to the wonderful donations and raffle prizes we received.

Sports Camp will be running again this summer in the grounds of Woodcote Primary School for all local children. If you would like to find out more, contact www.elmsholidayschemes.co.uk

Sadly, we have said goodbye to Mr Field who has taken up another headship in Reading. We are very sad to see him go and also to see Mr Dixon (Year 3) who left at the end of the summer term and has taken up a post in Northampton. Our good wishes to both of them and a huge thank you for all they have done and contributed to the continuing successes at Woodcote Primary School.
