  • Newsletter week ending 11th March 2016

    Fri 11 Mar 2016

Year 3 & 4 Production – this year’s play is called ‘The Peace Child’. There will be a dress rehearsal on Monday 21st March at 1.30pm, a full afternoon performance on Tuesday 22nd March at 1.30pm and an evening performance on Wednesday 23rd March at 6.30pm. Each performance is approximately an hour and 15 minutes long. As usual we are bound by Fire Regulations which restrict the number of seats we are allowed in the hall. Siblings will see the production at the Dress Rehearsal on Monday 21st March. If you require any further information regarding the production, please see members of the Year 3 or 4 staff.

Thank you – to Rachel Smith (Jess & Sam’s mother) who volunteered to help this morning tidying up the raised beds in the garden at the front of the school. The area looks much neater. We are always appreciative of any help parents can offer especially with gardening.

Sport Relief Cake Sale – on Friday 18th March we will be holding a cake sale to fundraise for Sport Relief. Please would parents bring in any cakes or biscuits to contribute to the sale on Friday morning. Please be aware of our no nuts policy and ensure all donations are nut free. The children may bring in some money to spend at the cake sale which is likely to be held at both break time and lunch time. Cakes will cost between 50p and £1.00. The safest way for the children to bring in their money is by sealing it in a labelled envelope and giving it to the class teacher first thing in the morning.

Film night – the school council would like to invite children in Year1 to Year 6 to another film night on Friday 15th April 2016. The film will be shown in Willow Class, from 3.20pm to 6pm. There will be a letter going out next week detailing costs etc and for parents to request places for their children.

Netball Club – on Friday next week (18th March) Mrs Crockett will not be holding her usual early morning netball club. She has reminded the children that today was the last one this term.

Uniform – please would parents check that all school uniform is clearly labelled. Shoes, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, rucksacks, school bags and lunchboxes all need to be labelled. All swimming kit should be labelled as there is often much confusion in the changing rooms when the children are redressing. They have no idea whose uniform is whose if there are no names.

Recycling – you will notice a variety of recycling boxes in the front foyer area. They are for recycling empty air fresheners and home care products, Ella’s kitchen empty food packaging, empty writing instruments (ie pens and biros) and finally empty biscuit packet wrappers. Please help us raise money for our school by putting your empties into the appropriate box.

Music lessons – if your child is unable to attend a music lesson (piano, guitar or Music for Schools) due to a school trip or illness, please inform the music teacher, with whom you have the contract.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids – vouchers will be available in store from 27th January – 3rd May 2016. Please collect these for our school and bring them to the Foyer to post in the collection box or post them through our post box. Please do not staple them together. The more vouchers are collected, the more we can spend on additional resources for school. Over the years we have bought playground equipment, such as stilts and skipping ropes, and gym equipment too.

Lambing Weekend – on 12th,13th, 19th & 20th March, the Earth Trust will be having their annual open days at Little Wittenham, giving visitors a chance to see their working farm. There will be the opportunity to see not just ewes with their lambs, but pigs with their piglets, goats with their kids, cows and chickens too. There will be a range of activities for visitors to take part in such as bale climbing, a sheep hunt and craft activities. For more details please visit their website: www.earthtrust.org.uk

Table Top Sale – of pre loved items on Saturday 12th March – starts at 9.30am in the village hall.  Come and have a browse – it’s free! Have a cuppa (donation to FOWPs) and make us an offer on something for your baby, child, home or wardrobe!  There will be a colouring table for the children and a free balloon while stocks last!

Auction of Promises – Friday 15th March, 7:30pm

FOWPS are holding an Auction of Promises to raise money for the school. We are looking for ‘promises’, big or small, to make the evening a success. Please can you help?

Examples include: babysitting, gardening, computer help, cake making, vouchers, meals, homemade jam, day trips, taxi service, and holiday homes.

If you, or a company you know of, can donate a ‘promise’ or item, please describe it on the form which the children are bringing home today and return it to the school office addressed to FOWPS.

Thank you for your help with this!

If you would like to come along to the Auction, tickets are £3, which includes your first drink from the bar. To purchase tickets, complete and return the attached form to the school office or e mail FOWPS.

Alternatively, see your FOWPS class rep in the playground. We look forward to seeing you, for what promises to be an enjoyable evening, raising money for the school.

The 100 Club – the February draw was won by Mr & Mrs M Ford.

Have you joined? Here’s how it works…

You complete and sign a membership form and either

    – set up a Standing Order for £2 a month, or
    – pay £24 by cheque/cash for a 12 month period.

This buys you one membership number, which enters you into the monthly draw. (All participants must be over 16)

£30 draw will take place in the final assembly of each month with the exception of the two months in which the Summer and Winter fairs fall.  In these months the normal draw is replaced with a special £200 draw at the fair.

All profits raised go to FOWPS to help fund equipment, resources and opportunities for pupils.

If you are interested in joining the 100 Club and entering the monthly draws please see Amanda Lyons for more information or pick up an application form from the school foyer.

  • School Angel Fundraising

    Wed 09 Mar 2016

    How does school angel work?

We are pleased to announce that Woodcote Primary has teamed up with a new charity called schoolangel.org.uk which will help our school to raise money. We can then spend the money on helping your child get the most out of school.

School Angel works with lots of big shopping brands in the UK which have agreed to donate a portion of the profit, they normally make on your shopping if you use the School Angel website to visit their shop. You are guaranteed to only pay exactly the same price, for whatever you buy, but our school will also receive a donation.

School Angel is really simple to use and our school has its own charity page already set up. Click on this link to go to our Woodcote Primary School Angel fundraising page

Once on the page all you need to do is click on the logo for whatever shop you would like to visit.

School Angel does not need you to ever create an account or login, there are no passwords to remember and they will never trouble you with any junk mail.

School Angel works with some of your favourite companies for booking hotels, holidays and shopping. These companies have agreed to donate a portion of their profit to  School Angel every time you use this site. Simply click from the shop icon on your school’s page and we can track the donation from your shopping. It costs you nothing to use the site and you are guaranteed to get exactly the same deal on your purchases using School Angel as you would if you visited the retailers’ website direct.

Unlike other school fund-raising websites which are run as businesses, School Angel is a charity, so all the profits go to help schools, and you never need to login. Just click in and out of School Angel in a second and we will make sure your donation gets right back to school.

We are really excited that School Angel can help our school raise lots of money which we want to use for a variety of projects to enhance the facilities and educational experiences for our children.  So please remember to use the School Angel site when you shop online and ask your friends and relatives to support us too! Thank you.

As we approach Easter, we hope that our staff, you, your friends and family might consider visiting this website prior to your purchases. By using School Angel you really do make a real difference to your school without it costing you a single penny.

World Book Day – the children have had an exciting week of activities each afternoon this week. In their team point groups, the children created a variety of ‘big art’ based around stories by the author Oliver Jeffers ( http://www.oliverjeffers.com/picture-books/stuck ) The art work will be displayed around school once it’s finished.

Netball – the year 6 netball team took part in a netball tournament at Langtree this week. They played very well and came 2nd. As a result they are now through to the Oxfordshire County finals in April. Congratulations to the children for such a strong performance.

Maths Challenge – well done to the Year 5 & 6 children who took part in the Maths Challenge at The Oratory School on Thursday. Our school team came 3rd out of 11 schools, which is a great achievement so well done to the team.

The 100 Club – Have you joined?

Another way we raise funds is through our 100 Club. A great way for you to support us whilst having a bit of a flutter! Here’s how it works…

You complete and sign a membership form and either

    – set up a Standing Order for £2 a month, or
    – pay £24 by cheque/cash for the 12 month period.

If you win, a cheque will be posted to your home address and the name of the winner published in the school’s monthly newsletter.

All profits raised go to FOWPS to help fund equipment, resources and opportunities for pupils.
If all 100 numbers were taken, this would raise a stunning £1700 for the school! We still have many unsold numbers! If you are interested in joining the 100 Club and entering the monthly draws please see Amanda Lyons for more information.
