Newsletter week ending 11th March 2016

Year 3 & 4 Production – this year’s play is called ‘The Peace Child’. There will be a dress rehearsal on Monday 21st March at 1.30pm, a full afternoon performance on Tuesday 22nd March at 1.30pm and an evening performance on Wednesday 23rd March at 6.30pm. Each performance is approximately an hour and 15 minutes long. As usual we are bound by Fire Regulations which restrict the number of seats we are allowed in the hall. Siblings will see the production at the Dress Rehearsal on Monday 21st March. If you require any further information regarding the production, please see members of the Year 3 or 4 staff.

Thank you – to Rachel Smith (Jess & Sam’s mother) who volunteered to help this morning tidying up the raised beds in the garden at the front of the school. The area looks much neater. We are always appreciative of any help parents can offer especially with gardening.

Sport Relief Cake Sale – on Friday 18th March we will be holding a cake sale to fundraise for Sport Relief. Please would parents bring in any cakes or biscuits to contribute to the sale on Friday morning. Please be aware of our no nuts policy and ensure all donations are nut free. The children may bring in some money to spend at the cake sale which is likely to be held at both break time and lunch time. Cakes will cost between 50p and £1.00. The safest way for the children to bring in their money is by sealing it in a labelled envelope and giving it to the class teacher first thing in the morning.

Film night – the school council would like to invite children in Year1 to Year 6 to another film night on Friday 15th April 2016. The film will be shown in Willow Class, from 3.20pm to 6pm. There will be a letter going out next week detailing costs etc and for parents to request places for their children.

Netball Club – on Friday next week (18th March) Mrs Crockett will not be holding her usual early morning netball club. She has reminded the children that today was the last one this term.

Uniform – please would parents check that all school uniform is clearly labelled. Shoes, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, rucksacks, school bags and lunchboxes all need to be labelled. All swimming kit should be labelled as there is often much confusion in the changing rooms when the children are redressing. They have no idea whose uniform is whose if there are no names.

Recycling – you will notice a variety of recycling boxes in the front foyer area. They are for recycling empty air fresheners and home care products, Ella’s kitchen empty food packaging, empty writing instruments (ie pens and biros) and finally empty biscuit packet wrappers. Please help us raise money for our school by putting your empties into the appropriate box.

Music lessons – if your child is unable to attend a music lesson (piano, guitar or Music for Schools) due to a school trip or illness, please inform the music teacher, with whom you have the contract.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids – vouchers will be available in store from 27th January – 3rd May 2016. Please collect these for our school and bring them to the Foyer to post in the collection box or post them through our post box. Please do not staple them together. The more vouchers are collected, the more we can spend on additional resources for school. Over the years we have bought playground equipment, such as stilts and skipping ropes, and gym equipment too.

Lambing Weekend – on 12th,13th, 19th & 20th March, the Earth Trust will be having their annual open days at Little Wittenham, giving visitors a chance to see their working farm. There will be the opportunity to see not just ewes with their lambs, but pigs with their piglets, goats with their kids, cows and chickens too. There will be a range of activities for visitors to take part in such as bale climbing, a sheep hunt and craft activities. For more details please visit their website: www.earthtrust.org.uk

Table Top Sale – of pre loved items on Saturday 12th March – starts at 9.30am in the village hall.  Come and have a browse – it’s free! Have a cuppa (donation to FOWPs) and make us an offer on something for your baby, child, home or wardrobe!  There will be a colouring table for the children and a free balloon while stocks last!

Twitter – we now have 2 twitter feeds for parents to follow. One is for our Travelling Ted – @WoodcoteTeds and the other is a school feed – @WPSoxon, as advertised at the top of the Newsletter. More information can be found on the school website – www.woodcote-primary.co.uk

FOWPS Newsletter W/ending: 11th March 2016

Auction of Promises – Friday 15th March, 7:30pm

FOWPS are holding an Auction of Promises to raise money for the school. We are looking for ‘promises’, big or small, to make the evening a success. Please can you help?

Examples include: babysitting, gardening, computer help, cake making, vouchers, meals, homemade jam, day trips, taxi service, and holiday homes.

If you, or a company you know of, can donate a ‘promise’ or item, please describe it on the form which the children are bringing home today and return it to the school office addressed to FOWPS.

Thank you for your help with this!

If you would like to come along to the Auction, tickets are £3, which includes your first drink from the bar. To purchase tickets, complete and return the attached form to the school office or e mail FOWPS.

Alternatively, see your FOWPS class rep in the playground. We look forward to seeing you, for what promises to be an enjoyable evening, raising money for the school.

The 100 Club – the February draw was won by Mr & Mrs M Ford.

Have you joined? Here’s how it works…

You complete and sign a membership form and either

– set up a Standing Order for £2 a month, or
– pay £24 by cheque/cash for a 12 month period.

This buys you one membership number, which enters you into the monthly draw. (All participants must be over 16)

£30 draw will take place in the final assembly of each month with the exception of the two months in which the Summer and Winter fairs fall.  In these months the normal draw is replaced with a special £200 draw at the fair.

All profits raised go to FOWPS to help fund equipment, resources and opportunities for pupils.

If you are interested in joining the 100 Club and entering the monthly draws please see Amanda Lyons for more information or pick up an application form from the school foyer.
