World Book Day

The children really enjoyed celebrating ‘World Book Day’. Throughout the week they have been working collaboratively in their house teams and they have produced some wonderful artwork which will be on display around the school. Thank you to all the parents for helping with such great outfits and costumes.

Sporting News

High Five Netball Tournament

The Year 5/6 Netball team played in a tournament at Langtree School on Thursday March 2nd. As a team they put in a valiant effort and displayed excellent sportsmanship. The matches were closely contested and we were fifth overall. The team choose Erin Hughes-Williams from Year 5 for the Olympic Value of sportsmanship and fair play and she received a medal. The ‘B’ team will play in their tournament next week.

Team Superschools

Team Superschools will be hosting a sponsored event at Woodcote Primary School on the afternoon of Tuesday March 14th with a special visit from the Olympian Darren Campbell.

All the children from Reception to Year 6 will be taking part in a simple fitness circuit which will include the following exercises:

  • Sit ups (KS2) or Spotty Dogs (KS1)
  • Leg drive
  • Press ups
  • Star jumps

After the event the children will have a question and answer session with Darren and have a photograph taken with him. Team Superschools run this as a sponsored event. They request that, if possible, each child raise a minimum of £2.50. This money helps their company to support young Olympic hopefuls to fulfil their dreams and represent England at the Olympic Games. Who knows, maybe one day a Woodcote Primary School child will be representing us!

If your child raises more than the £2.50 we will collect this and send it to Comic Relief along with other monies raised on Red Nose Day. If your child raises between £7.50 and £12.49 they will be awarded a bronze medal, £12.50 to £19.99 will be a silver medal and £20+ a gold medal and a water bottle.  Everyone taking part will receive a wrist band as a reminder of the day.

The children have already watched a video from Team Superschools telling them all about their special guest and what will happen on the day. They have also been reminded about seeking sponsorship safely with help from family and friends and it has been emphasised that strangers should never be approached.

We would like the children to wear their regular PE kits and they are welcome to bring in an autograph book for Darren to sign. Darren Campbell won the 4×4 100m relay in the Athens Olympics in 2004 and we are really excited to be meeting him and seeing his Gold medal. For parents wishing to learn more about Team Superschools, the web link is www.teamsuperschools.co.uk. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you have about the event. Please make any cheques payable to Oxfordshire County Council.
