FOWPS Newsletter May/June 2016

FOWPS Newsletter – May/June 2016

Coffee Shop

Thank you for everyone’s help on Saturday 7th May.  The coffee shop went really well and we raised £215.

FOWPS organises the Coffee Shop in the community centre 3 times a year on Saturday mornings.  We often run a tombola as well.

To run the event we require parents to volunteer for a couple of hours to help out and also to bake about 10 -12 cakes.  I think Woodcote Primary has quite a good reputation for fantastic cakes – We have some really good bakers amongst us!  It’s really well supported by helpers, bakers and people coming along too with their families.

We often raise more than £200 from the morning.  We also love running it as it’s such a popular Woodcote Community event.

100 Club Winner

The 100 Club prize winner for April is Liz Dickins. She has won £30.

Pub Walk

We were thrilled to have a warm and balmy evening for the 43 ladies who joined in for the annual Ladies Pub Walk and Talk organised by FOWPS. The entire walk is around 3 miles and is fairly level. It is a lovely way to spend an evening and to chat to other ladies in the school community who you might otherwise not have the chance to speak to. We would especially recommend coming along to our next one if you are new to the school.

This event is open to all local ladies so were pleased that we had past and current parents, aunts, friends and teaching staff represented. With 43 ladies in attendance we raised around £360 for various projects around the school. Thank you!

We look forward to having many of you again next year and hopefully a few more new faces too…

Summer Fair – Friday 17th June 5pm – 8pm

In acknowledgment of the Olympics taking place later this year, we are having a sports themed summer fair. There will be netball hoops to shoot, penalty shootout at football goals, a bouncy castle, tennis skills, horse rides, throwing at targets, long jump, skittles and a variety of food stalls. There will also be a face paint and nail polish stall. There’s a mini Olympics activity course to complete with a lucky dip prize to all who finish!

We have asked various groups to put on displays, including our own year 6 class. The choirs will entertain us with musical offerings to.

Raffle – to be drawn at the Summer Fair

This year, for the raffle, we will be focussing on themed hampers. We already have three fabulous top prizes but need your generosity to create some smaller hamper gifts. You will be asked to bring in items to suit the hamper themes. For example, you might be asked to donate bath time goodies (these would include soaps, towels, shampoo, bubble bath, bath crayons, sponges, face cloths, candles or bath salts). Once everyone has brought in their items, we will create hampers using those items. These will then be raffled off.

Collection for bottle and jolly jars tombola

As always, we will be organising the ever popular jolly jar stall and bottle tombola.

We are collecting for the Summer Fair Tombolas, starting next week. We will collect items in the playground each morning. Please don’t take them to your classroom!

Week beginning 23rd May: Bottles for the tombola. (Make sure the contents are in date to at least July 2016)

Week beginning 6th June: Jolly Jars

*We will be collecting your hamper donations alongside these other collections between 23rd of May and the 15th of June.  Look out for themed bags/boxes to put your items into.

This year, the competition for bringing in the most will be run in the school house teams (Owls, Red kites, Kestrels, Eagles & Hawks). There will be a bag for each team for the collection of hamper donations and the team that brings in the most each week will win a Dress Down Day!

Thank you so much for your support and generosity. It will really help the Summer Fair be a success.

We need volunteers!

There will be a sign up sheet for anyone who wishes to help in any capacity, whether it be setting up or clearing away or manning a stall for a period of time. Please look out for these sheets in the front of the school over the coming weeks. We do need your help to make the event successful. So please give some time, even if it is only 30 minutes.
