Raincoats – please could all children bring in their labelled raincoats each day. Children may play outside in light rain during playtimes and lunchtimes but only if they are wearing coats.

Sports Day – this year’s Sports Day will be on Thursday 23rd June. If the weather prevents the day from taking place, an alternative day of Wednesday 29th June will be used. PE kits are needed from Monday onwards as the children will be practicing.

KS1 Sports will be on the Woodcote field from 1.15 – 3.15pm.

The Cygnet – The GAP Festival at Goring and Streatley has been underway this week.  Our Yr 5 and 6 singers enjoyed participating in a very successful and enjoyable concert last weekend. Year 2 have been busy in preparation for the GAP sculpture project which is happening at The Swan, Streatley, this weekend.  The children, similarly to other primary schools in the area, have created a cygnet for display alongside the big sculpture project: a huge swan.  The Woodcote cygnet was created from recycled milk bottles and will be displayed in the grounds of The Swan on Saturday.  Go along, view it and its companions and join this fantastic free drop-in workshop for all ages and families. Help create a giant swan sculpture, under the guidance of Oxfordshire based artist, Michelle Griffin. Check GAP festival website to find out what else is on:  http://www.thegapfestival.org/

Morning arrival – please ensure your children are in school by 8.50am. The morning register is taken at this time and lessons start promptly straight afterwards. By arriving late, your child is missing out on the first part on a lesson. If your child has a Doctor’s appointment, or will be late for any other reason, please call the school office to let them know. Absence’s need to be reported by 9.30am each day. Please remember to complete a ‘Notification of Absence Form’ once your child returns to school. These are available in the Foyer.

Thank you – Niamh Rasmussen thanks all those who donated money to The Little Princess Trust. Niamh donated 26cm of her hair last week and raised £199.95 for the charity. Well done Niamh!

Head Lice – there have been several reports of children with head lice over the last few weeks. It is important that children’s hair is checked on a regular basis to catch any live louse early and treat the child with effective treatments. For more information please follow the link: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Head-lice/Pages/Treatment.aspx

Piano lessons – please note that piano lessons will take place on Tuesday next week (21st June). The change in day is only for this week. Please remind your children to bring in their music books.

Uniform – if uniform is required for September, please be sure to complete and return your orders as soon as possible, enclosing exact cash payments or cheques in a sealed envelope. Please remember to label all your children’s school uniform and any additional items brought into school. There is a tub full of unlabelled uniform in lost property at the moment. Please note that children should be wearing black, grey or white socks. Multi-coloured, stripy socks are not acceptable as part of school uniform.

The dress rehearsal will be held on Tuesday 5th July from 1.30pm, the evening performance on Wednesday 6th July from 6.30pm and the afternoon performance on Thursday 7th July from 1.30pm. More information will follow regarding tickets.

Aspens Unique School code – when registering your children for Aspens meals, it is now necessary to enter a unique school code – 354967.

Library Reading Challenge – children are being encouraged to sign up for ‘The Big Friendly Read’ – the Summer Reading Challenge 2016, at their local Library, Woodcote. The ‘Big Friendly Read’ challenges children aged from 4 to 11 to extend their reading experience over the long summer holiday, giving them access to our wide range of books. The theme is based on “invention, mischief and friendship”, all ideas which are explored in Roald Dahl’s most famous books.

Children can join FREE at any Library in Oxfordshire. They will need to visit a Library three times during the summer and read six books. As they read their books, each child will receive collector cards that make up a set to complete their folder. Each card features an original piece of Quentin Blake artwork from a classic Roald Dahl tale, as well as some fun activities on the reverse. Kids are going to love collecting these!  These build to become a unique record of your child’s Summer Reading Challenge, and a great way to mark Dahl’s centenary.

Woodcote Library will be running themed events throughout the summer holidays and we will make sure that we let you have our Summer Newsletter so you are kept informed of all that is going on here. More information can be found on the Reading Agency website: http://readingagency.org.uk/children

Summer Fair – this evening from 5-8pm.

Taking inspiration from the Rio Olympics this year, we have decided to go with a SPORTS theme for the summer fair. We have a burger and hot dog stall, a bar selling beers and Pimms and tea and cakes and soft drinks stall, as well as ice creams planned to take care of your Friday night family meal.

For your enjoyment, so far we have organised horse rides, a football shoot out, netball hoops goals, skittles, jolly jars, bottle tombola, raffles, Olympic activity trail with lucky dip prizes, jumping obstacle course, knock the wickets over, a karate display, the choir will be singing, table tennis games, nail polish and tattoo stall, a bouncy castle, the stocks (so you can soak someone with a sponge) and skipping. Many of the activities will be timed and winners will be able to win prizes.

This year, our summer fair raffle is a hamper raffle.  We already have a selection of superb hampers for 1, 2 and 3rd prize. These are:  £100 Farm Shop Hamper, a Wine Hamper and a West Berks Brewery Beer Hamper. There will be others to win as well.

There will be an ‘event ticket’ system of payment this year to avoid parents having to bring pockets of small change. The tickets can be purchased as you arrive and are available throughout the evening. Please note that, once purchased, unused tickets cannot be refunded.

We hope that as many of you as possible will come along to support the school and enjoy a fun evening.

Singing Schedule: KS1 to meet in Hornbeam & KS2 to meet in Rowan at 6.30pm tonight.
