    New Arrival – We are delighted to say that Mr and Mrs Field’s new baby boy arrived on Tuesday this week and will be called Edward. Congratulations to the family.

     

     

    Inset Day – We hope you all enjoy your half term holiday next week and don’t forget there is an Inset Day on Monday 5th November so the children do not return to school until Tuesday 6thNovember.

     

    Science Week – Themed around ‘Is anybody out there?’  It was of course, all about space.  The children have had a tremendous time; from our own displays of earth with its view of space and asteroids, to the excitement of theatre groups, trips and a visiting space dome.  They have taken part in a fabulous range of activities and have carried out lots of investigative science.  We would love to hear your views on their reactions to it all.

    The staff have spent a huge amount of time and energy on this week and what a week!  Celebrating new life in our midst and the possibility of further life in the universe!  We leave the term with a big bang! (Pun very much intended)  Alison Lecorgne – Science Co-ordinator

     

    Swimming Gala – Last week a group of children took part in a swimming gala of competitive and fun races with five cluster schools.  Our school came third overall and the children performed and behaved very well.  Well done to Amy Allen, Joshua Palmer, Lucy Ball, Molly Cole, Alex Ostridge, David Carr, Andrew Carr, Archie Kennedy, Silas Mendez, Astrid Tozer, Kathryn Hall, Peter Mason and Georgina Benham.

     

    Pottery Club – There is one space in the pottery classes after school on Mondays.  These take place from
    3.30 – 4.30pm and there will be four sessions only (cost £15) during the half term up to Christmas, starting on Monday 12th November.  If your child is interested in taking up this place ask in the school office.

     

    Poppies – We will have poppies available in school during the week after half term so children can bring in some money to obtain one of these.

     

    Children in Need – On Friday 16th November as our contribution to Children in Need, children may come to school in pyjamas (sensible type only) for a donation of £1 per child.

     

    Photographs – Cabin Pre-school have the Photographer coming on Wednesday 7th November at 2pm.  If anyone would like a family photo for Christmas they will have availability after school.  Just pop in to Cabin and book a slot.

     

    Barn Dance – St. Leonard’s Church are holding a barn dance on Saturday 3rd November 7.30 till 11pm in the village hall. Tickets from Brian Turner 01491 681739 £8 adults, £5 seniors and 14 and under, family ticket £20.

  • Science week with a Space theme

    "Spacefun" the theatre group came in on Monday to entertain and educate with a funny show all about the planets.

     

    Upper Key Stage 2 enjoyed an array of experiments all about the planet Mars on Tuesday.

     

    Wednesday all of Key Stage 2 are off to INTECH science centre and planetarium while Key Stage 1 enjoy EXPLORER DOME at school.

    On Thursday all of Key Stage 1 are off to the Lookout Discovery Centre.

    Science Week – Next week is Science Week!  The theme will be ‘Space’ Is Anyone out there?

    There will be a range of exciting events and activities organised for all the children throughout the week starting with an introductory assembly by Mrs Lecorgne (Science co-ordinator) on Monday.

     

    On Friday, for a donation of £1 per child, they may dress as a spaceman or alien for the day.

     

    Piano Lessons – Please note that the piano lessons due to take place on Wednesday 24thOctober will now be on Thursday 25th October because of the KS2 science trip which will take place on the Wednesday.

     

    Nestlé Box Tops – Please send any box top tokens that you have next week so that we can send in another order for books for the school.

     

    School Uniform – As a reminder to everyone and for parents new to the school, we have put on the back of this newsletter, details of uniform requirements for all children.

     

    Operation Christmas Child – If you would like to take part in this year’s shoebox appeal, leaflets are available in the school office.  Boxes will need to be brought into school during the week after half term so they can be collected.

     

    Year 6 transfer to Secondary School – A reminder to parents of Year 6 children that the deadline for applications for transfer to secondary school is 31st October.  This can be done online at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/admissions

     

    Half Term – The October holiday is Monday 29th October until Friday 2nd November and there is also an Inset Day on Monday 5th November so children will not return until Tuesday 6thNovember.

    Cross Country – Last week we took a team of Year 3 to Year 6 pupils to Langtree to take part in an inter-schools cross country event.

     

    Children ran in teams and there were some great individual performances. We certainly have some talented long distance runners. Well done to Christopher Lobb, Niamh Rasmussen, Chloe Page, Milly Coleman, Archie Clark, Tom Gordon, Katie McDowell, Archie Kennedy, Andrew Carr, David Carr, Jack Botham, Josh Palmer, Lucy Ball, Amy Allen, Astrid Tozer and Bryony Furlonger.

    Parent Interviews – Lists are still in the school hall for you to sign up for an appointment with your child’s teacher for the parent interviews being held during the week beginning 15th October for children in Years 1-6.

    Knitting Club – We are delighted that so many children have joined our Knitting Club run by Mrs Bodeker but we have now run out of knitting needles. Can we please ask that if you have any of Mrs Bodeker’s needles at home from last term which are not being used for the knitting club this term, that these be returned so they can be used by other children.


    Also, if anyone has spare needles (preferably short ones) that could be donated to the school please can these be brought in to the school office. We have plenty of wool at present so do not need donations of wool.

    Cheque Payments – A reminder please that all cheque payments for school dinners or school trips should be made payable to ‘Oxfordshire County Council’. The only cheques that should be payable to Woodcote Primary School are payments for school uniform.

     

    Dolce Christmas card competition – With this newsletter you will receive a leaflet inviting children to take part in this competition. Please bring your entries to the school office (not to the school cook as shown on the leaflet) by the 26th October (half term).. There will be some great prizes for the winner of the competition and the winning school.

     

    Lost Property – We have some items in our lost property box including a Little Miss umbrella, a pink fleece and a pair of wellies (size 12). Please ask in the school office if you think any of this belongs to your child. After the end of next week everything will be disposed of.
