Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Welcome to the Early Years department at Woodcote Primary School, which consists of a Nursery (FS1) and Reception (FS2 ) class.  The nursery children belong to Acorn Class and the reception children belong to Oak Class and, although their classrooms are in different spaces, planned time together happens weekly to build effective relationships between all the EYFS children and staff, and this in turn supports transition.

At Woodcote Primary School, we pride ourselves on giving children the best start to education and on our close partnership with families.  We believe that to meet each child's unique needs, we need to have strong relationships and strong communication between home and school.  Together we can ensure the children enjoy learning and continually make progress from their own baseline.

All the staff have early years experience and many of us also have experience of working in Key Stage One and Two.  As a team, we are passionate about supporting early learning and development, understanding that this is vital for giving children the skills they will need to carry themselves forward as their journey through education and into adulthood continues.  Play is the primary way in which children learn during the first eight years of their life – children have a right to play, both at home and at school, inside and out.  The adult role is to plan play-based learning according to the children's unique needs and interests, provide the resources and 'teach in the moment' to ensure this play leads to every child developing and learning.

Below you will find an attachment (EYFS III 25-26) which gives more detail about what our intent is for this stage of learning, how we implement that intent and the impact we hope to have.   Please also find a copy of the EYFS policy which will help you know more about this stage of your child's education.

As always, if you have questions, please ask.
