Pirates of the Curry Bean Costumes

Thank you so much for helping to support us to put on our play.

The following costume list is designed to be guidance, but feel free to tweak and adapt as needed. If you are struggling to source any part of the costume, then please let one of the Year 5 or 6 staff know. Also, if you happen to have an item another child could find useful and you’re happy to lend it, please also let a member of staff know. Please try and make sure a complete costume is in school by the end of next week. Check out the following website for photos of a performance put on by another school that might help inform the costumes you are putting together: https://lalehamlea.co.uk/gallery/drama-pirates-of-the-curry-bean/

Periwinkle Family

Slight pirate flavour. Anything striped (black and white), long flowing skirts for Pearl and Liza, bandanas.

Pirates inc. Captain Redbeard

Red and black / red and white striped tops, knee length trousers (raggedly cut off an old pair), bandanas.

Captain Redbeard should be more elaborate with a pirate captain’s hat and more ‘Hook’ style costume.

Sailors inc. Captain Cod & Admiral Hornhonker

Naval blue and white, ideally blue and white striped tops with blue or white trousers and sailor hats.

Captain Cod & Admiral Hornhonker should be more elaborate uniforms.

Squawk

Colourful clothes, wings of some sort (card, feathers, fabric cloak)

Scuttle & Slack

As pirates but with an apron over the top.

Deadeye Dinghy

Similar to pirates / Captain Redbeard, could be a different colour to make them stand out.

Stanley Periwinkle/Chief Wonga

Stanley Periwinkle dresses as a pirate captain (see pirates above). Chief Wonga will dress like the natives below.

Mr. Pratt & Mr Wally

Smart. Shirt and tie. Jacket if possible.

Sellers / Tick, Tack and Toe

Sellers are dressed in a similar style to Scuttle and Slack (pirate with aprons over the top).

Tick, Tack and Toe dress like the natives (see below)

Natives

Hawaiian themed: hula skirt, Hawaiian shirt / colourful shirt, flower necklace.

Chief Wonga could have some sort of flowery crown

Fiddlesticks / Rats / Monkeys

For the animal costumes dressing in a single colour then adding a mask / ears / face paint would work great.

Fiddlesticks: Any common cat colour, orange, black, etc.

Rats: Grey, black, white

Monkeys: Black, grey or brown

Props: Many of your children will have props that they need for the play. We have a number of props available in school (mops, maps, pirate beards), but if you spot anything in the script that wouldn’t mind lending for the performance, either for your child or another, then please drop them in. They would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
