Harvest
As part of our RE learning, we have been learning about the Harvest festival in different faiths.
In Hornbeam, we have been learning about harvest and the Harvest festival. The Harvest festival is a Christian celebration where Christians give thanks to God for providing them with food. We learnt about some of the crops that are harvested in this country and made pumpkins to take with us to church.
We also learnt about Sukkot, which is a Jewish festival similar to harvest. This is to celebrate the Israelites who escaped Egypt and travelled across the desert for 40 years. Jewish people give thanks to God for protecting them during this time. We learnt about the Jewish traditions of building a Sukkah (a small hut made out of natural materials) and the waving of the Four Species. We have built our own model Sukkah's using natural materials and some children have even built a bed or table inside.
