The Summer term saw us starting our new History topic on the Stone Age; looking at timelines and learning just how long the Stone Age lasted in Britain, going on a hunter-gatherer walk and thinking how Stone Age people survived and evolved, and discovering the Neolithic village 'Skara Brae'.

In Science, we looked at the Life Cycle of Flowering plants, learning about the key parts of a plant and their function. We planted bean seeds to investigate how a seed germinates and dissected flowers to look at the reproduction of plants.

In Maths, we investigated fractions, thinking about the numerators and denominators and equal fractions. Whilst in English, we read both 'UG' and 'The First Drawing' to present an argument about the best stone-age materials for trousers and to create some narrative writing.

This term, we have studied Europe in Geography, thinking about continents, countries and capital cities. We have looked at similarities and differences between European countries, as well as looking at key physical and human geography for several European countries.

In English, we shared a class book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes, and wrote our own versions of the start of the story using similar language to Ted Hughes - repetition of words, similes and lots of onomatopoeic phrases.

In Maths, we finished our work on multiplication and division and ended the term learning about measurement of length in mm, cm and metres,

During our Art lessons, we studied the work of two textile artists, Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle, to create our seascapes using fabric, paint and embroidery.

And of course, we performed our Year 3/4 play - Hoodwinked!

Our studies of Ancient Egypt in History this term lead us to examine museum artefacts and join a mummification school. Alongside studying life in Ancient Egypt, hieroglyphics, the pharoahs, Egyptian Gods and, of course, the pyramids.

Alongside this History topic, we read The Egyptian Cinderella and The Story of Tutankhamun in our English lesson. Looking at a twist on a traditional tale and writing Howard Carter diaries.

In D.T. we designed our own ancient Egyptian water carriers, shadufs. Testing out our designs with straws before revising and creating final versions in wood, which involved careful measuring and sawing.

In Maths, we looked at Egyptian number systems. Solving Egyptian hieroglyph calculations and writing our own.

And in Art, we created Nefertiti-style Egyptian pharaoh portraits and had an Egyptian Day, wearing our own Egyptian collars.
