Reading Support
Reading is an integral part of a child's journey through school. Support from home can help your child make progress in reading and develop a clearer understanding of the world around them. We recommend that every child should strive to read for up to 20 mins each day at home.
At Woodcote we send a child home 2 books each week. One book will be a Monster Phonics reading book. This will be reflective of the phonics we have been learning and will be defined according to ability and progress. In addition to this, your child will bring home one sharing book. This book is one that the child has chosen independently, it may be their favourite picture book or (as we advance through the year) an early reader chapter book. The purpose of a sharing book is that the child engages at home with reading. This may be a book that your child would like to listen to, read independently or read to someone else.
Attached to this article are some documents suggesting ways you can support reading and help to develop your child's comprehension skills.
