Homework

At Woodcote Primary school, we encourage a love of reading and want children to become passionate and excited about reading books. The best way to help at home is to read to children so they can hear what a good reader sounds like but also brings books alive. Children love this time spent with family and friends. The expectation is for children to read every day to an adult for about 10 minutes, talking about the text to improve fluency and comprehension. We would like children to read their Monster Phonics book at home, but they can also choose any other text. Reading books will be changed and given out every Monday.

We will detail in the weekly newsletter which number fact or timetables we are working on each week, so the children can spend some time practicing these at home. We will focus on number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and x2, x5 and x10 times tables in year 2, as well as the corresponding division facts. Times tables practice works best in short bursts of no longer than 5 minutes. Your child might prefer to use the Timetable Rockstars website, the Topmarks website or using dice or playing cards to call out multiples. 

In addition to this, please find attached a 'homework menu'. There are a list of optional homework tasks that can be completed at home and brought in whenever they are completed. We hope this will allow the children some creativity and flexibility with their homework.
