Newsletter week ending 30th June 2016

Reminder – there will be an INSET Day tomorrow – Friday 1st July 2016

Please cancel your child’s dinner on the Aspens website – there were 19 meals still booked and paid for when Aspens called earlier this afternoon.

Class Photo orders – your child should have received the Tempest order form for their Class Photo last week. Please complete any orders and send them back to the school office by 9am on Monday 4th July. Please ensure the envelope is well sealed if you are paying in cash and complete the front of the envelope with the information about name, class and payment amounts. Tempest will be collecting the orders for processing on Monday 4th July from 9am onwards. Late orders will need to be sent off independently by parents. We expect the completed photos back to school before the end of term.

Sports Day – it was very disappointing to have to cancel sports day for a second time. The weather has been so dreadful over the last few weeks which makes trying to arrange sports day very difficult. It has been decided to hold the sporting activities within the school day and on the school field and the village recreation ground. We will have to wait until the ground has dried out sufficiently to allow children to complete their races safely. This will mean that, whilst parents will not be involved, at least the children will not miss out and the teams can work towards winning the sports cup.

Year 5 & 6 production – this year’s play is called ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’! The dress rehearsal will be held on Tuesday 5th July from 1.30pm, the evening performance on Wednesday 6th July from 6.30pm and the afternoon performance on Thursday 7th July from 1.30pm. The Year 6 children have sent out invitations for tickets to this event to the Yr 5 & 6 parents. The productions will last approximately 1.5 hours and there will be a short interval on Wednesday evening when refreshments will be available to purchase.

Elms Sports Camp – please see the flier regarding the Elm’s Multi-Sports Camp at Woodcote Primary School during the summer holidays: 25th July – 27th July, 1st Aug – 3rd Aug & 8th Aug – 10th Aug 2016.

Aspens Unique School code – when registering your children for Aspens meals, it is now necessary to enter a unique school code – 354967.

Library Reading Challenge – children are being encouraged to sign up for ‘The Big Friendly Read’ – the Summer Reading Challenge 2016, at their local Library, Woodcote. The ‘Big Friendly Read’ challenges children aged from 4 to 11 to extend their reading experience over the long summer holiday, giving them access to our wide range of books. The theme is based on “invention, mischief and friendship”, all ideas which are explored in Roald Dahl’s most famous books.

Children can join FREE at any Library in Oxfordshire. They will need to visit a Library three times during the summer and read six books. As they read their books, each child will receive collector cards that make up a set to complete their folder. Each card features an original piece of Quentin Blake artwork from a classic Roald Dahl tale, as well as some fun activities on the reverse. Kids are going to love collecting these!  These build to become a unique record of your child’s Summer Reading Challenge, and a great way to mark Dahl’s centenary.

Woodcote Library will be running themed events throughout the summer holidays and we will make sure that we let you have our Summer Newsletter so you are kept informed of all that is going on here. More information can be found on the Reading Agency website: http://readingagency.org.uk/children
